Sciences beckon for chemistry students

But overall the Cedars Christian College student and her classmate Braidan Spicer completed the exam with ease.

‘‘There was only one real question I was stuck on because I just don’t remember covering it,’’ Bethany said.

As for the overall exam, the 18-year-old said: ‘‘I’m feeling rather confident about it. I think I prepared well.’’

Bethany enjoyed studying the sciences, including biology and physics, as well as animal studies, which she did through a TAFE course.

‘‘Ideally I’d like to be a vet,’’ she said.

‘‘I love the body and figuring out how it works; I think it’s absolutely fascinating.

‘‘I’m also interested in animals, so being a vet is the perfect thing to combine the two.’’

Chemistry is a prerequisite for vet science at university and Bethany hopes to be accepted into  the University of Sydney.

‘‘The course is rather difficult to get in,’’ she said.

‘‘I’m a little nervous.’’

Meanwhile,  18-year-old Braidan was more confident about his future after receiving an early entry offer by the University of Wollongong to study medicinal chemistry.

‘‘I was going to use it to help me get into medicine as postgraduate study,’’ he said.

The exam yesterday went ‘‘pretty well’’, he said.

‘‘I really enjoy working out how things work and react together.’’

Science teacher Darryl Sullivan said the exam paper ‘‘appeared reasonable’’ with only a few traps.

‘‘The thing that  stood out for me was in the option topic,’’ he said.

‘‘Our students did the option forensic chemistry and the last question on that...would have been challenging for a lot of students.’’
