There is a jam-packed schedule of events on in Shellharbour and Kiama. The councils are hosting events in the morning and into the afternoon on January 26.
Shellharbour
Shellharbour City Council will once again host its Breakfast by the Lake on Australia Day.
Revellers can get full tummies for $4. There will also be live music, stalls and free fun for the kids. The event will go from 7am to 12pm.
The council will present worthy recipients with the Citizen Award, to someone older than 25, and the Young Citizen Award, to someone younger than 25.
Performers will include Lizzie Bennett, Dear Violet, Kay Proudlove and Young Monks.
This year’s Shellharbour Australia Day Ambassador is gold medal-winning, world record-holding competitive swimmer, Annabelle Williams.
Ms Williams studied law and international relations at Bond University on the Gold Coast and is the legal counsel for the Australian Olympic Committee.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba encouraged everyone in the city to head to the event and join in the celebrations.
“This is always such a popular event on Council’s calendar. It’s a great opportunity to connect with others in our community and have fun with the family,” Cr Saliba said.
Kiama
Kiama Municipal Council’s Australia Day celebrations will kicked off at 7am at Old School Park in Gerringong, Kiama Downs’ Jones Beach, Coronation Park in Kiama. The event at Jamberoo’s Kevin Walsh Oval will start at 8am.
There will be bacon and egg breakfasts at each of the locations.
In Gerrigong there will be a jumping castle, face painting, giant jenga and dominoes, live music, novelty games and African drumming workshops.
The Australia Day Awards and citizenship ceremony will be held at Gerringong Town Hall at 8.30am.
There will be novelty games, a sand modelling competition, prize giveaways, a jumping castle and flag raising at Kiama Downs.
The event at Kiama will include live music, a jumping castle, face painting, friendly matches of beach volleyball and prize giveaways.
Jamberoo’s event will see live music, face painting, novelty games, friendly matches of Aussie sports and prize giveaways.
The free events will finish at 2pm.
