Fighting is a family affair at Xtreme B-Force Martial Arts in Cringila and it is paying off with great successes at a recent World Cup competition.
Eighteen Xtreme B-Force fighters won a total of 38 trophies and the club was placed fifth out of 20 schools at the 17th annual International Sporting Karate Association (ISKA) World Cup at Liverpool from October 17-19.
The mixed martial arts competition is held every four years and this year it attracted more than 1000 competitors, featuring different styles, including judo, karate, taekwondo and kickboxing. Xtreme B-Force focuses on hapkido.
Xtreme B-Force Martial Arts founder Isa Bektasovski and his wife, Stevka, have seven children - Esma, Adem, Remzi, Aydn, Jennet, Arron and Reyann - all club members who competed at the ISKA event.
Esma, 18, Adem, 17, and Remzi, 16, are Xtreme B-Force instructors and achieved great results at the World Cup. Adem was named grand champion in extreme forms.
"We were very overwhelmed [by the results] ... all of our students excelled and everyone's talking about it," Isa Bektasovski said.
A team led by Sam Sultan, 24, was named world novice point sparring champions.
The Cringila martial arts school opened in December 2013.
"We're a small school and we were taking on these schools that have 100 to 200 students."
Xtreme B-Force holds classes in hapkido, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, extreme martial arts, fitness and cardio kickboxing.
"We chose Cringila because there's nothing out here and we've had a positive outcome from this community," Bektasovski said.
The school supports the Wollongong Mother's Day Classic fun run for breast cancer and Autorama Illawarra car and bike expo for Lifeline.
