After completing their playing careers, the pair continued to contribute to the game in official capacities.
O'Connor, who joined the Steelers board in 1996, has been Steelers deputy chairman since 1999 and has served as a director on the St George Illawarra Dragons board since its inception that same year.
This year he became the inaugural chairman of the Illawarra Cutters in the NSW Cup competition.
McKellar was chairman of the Illawarra Carlton League and Illawarra Division selectors between 1996 and 2011 when he retired and left the district.
He was a Steelers board member from 1997-2011 and Illawarra Division chairman 1998-2011 and was awarded Illawarra Division life membership in 2004.
Steelers chairman Peter Newell praised the outstanding contributions of both men.
Newell yesterday delivered the Steelers annual report some seven months after it was originally due. It was postponed on advice following the roof collapse of the new $30 million WIN Stadium western grandstand next to the Steelers Club last year.
"An expert has been appointed to head an inquiry into this embarrassing grandstand roof failure," Mr Newell said.
"In the meantime, the Steelers board and management continue to pursue with our legal and insurance representatives all available means of compensation."
Peter Newell, who is also Clubs Australia and ClubsNSW chairman, said the Steelers Club contributed some $600,000 to rugby league as well as assisting other worthwhile causes in the community.
