Take Pozible, for example. Five years ago no-one would know what it was –but today creative types across the country are all over it.
Pozible is an Australian based crowd-funding website that has helped over 10,000 creative projects raise over $40,000,000.
It starts with an idea and a figure on how much it will cost you to make that idea a reality.
The creator sets a deadline to raise the funds, then it is up to every person who comes across your “Pozible Campaign” to decide if they want to pledge support. If the target is not met by the deadline, no one parts with any money.
Take artist Mike Foxall, for example. Spend five minutes with him and you will realise he has an insane amount of creativity percolating in his introverted mind. He draws, he paints, he writes, performs and records music, he writes stories, he is a graphic designer and animator and has dabbled in film-making.
He works from home at his “day job” of producing TV commercials and the odd music video or CD cover, but when he is not responding to the needs of a client, the real fun begins.
You see, Mike is a creator. It is something so innate to who he is that he can’t stop the endless stream of ideas that effortlessly flow from him. He has jumped on the social media band wagon, not to share what he ate for lunch, but as a marketing tool for his creative pursuits.
As a result he has quite a following for his artwork and his latest band, The Neptune Power Federation. He has used Pozible to fund his latest venture which was the publication of a 100-page graphic novel “Lucifer’s Universe” and the soundtrack to the graphic novel, recorded by his band on CD.
Mike’s target for the production of these items was $3000. Despite having a 90 day time-frame, he raised those funds in just over 20 days. Those that supported Mike didn’t walk away empty handed. Pledges from $30 to $500 are rewarded with Mike’s goodies, such as his novel, the CD soundtrack or T-shirts.
For Mike and other artists who struggle to find a mainstream audience, this is a dream world – being paid to be truly creative. Staying up until all hours painting skateboards is not a chore for this guy.
Pozible’s success rate is about 56%. The trick is to be great at what you do and be able to offer something tangible. Oh yeah, a high speed internet connection is pretty important too. To see Mike’s stuff visit www.theartoffox.com and check out www.pozible.com.
