South Coast spoilt the party again by defeating an Illawarra XI in a Twenty20 fixture at North Dalton Park on Wednesday night. It was the second-straight year South Coast have upset their arch-rivals in the game to launch the Illawarra cricket season.Batting first, Illawarra posted 103 from their 20 overs, Corrimal's Rob Fisher top-scoring with 32 from 30 deliveries.Helensburgh skipper Andrew Northridge increased the run-rate in the final overs with some lusty hitting, scoring 29 runs and setting up a modest but defendable total. It appeared South Coast would struggle to overhaul the target in difficult, dewy conditions. But steady hands from opening batsman Tony McCabe (23) and Kiama's Dale Scifleet (42) kept their side in touch before some power-hitting swung the game.Requiring 27 from the final three overs, Lake batsman Brendan White took to University bowler Kurt Miller, scoring 16 runs off the 18th over. White hit three consecutive boundaries, including two massive sixes, to secure the win for South Coast.Cricket Illawarra unveiled a new logo on the night and announced an increase in sponsorship from Illawarra Credit Union. The new logo is based on Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW's emblem and the "shield design" will be the template for association logos in coming years.Cricket Illawarra president Gordon Treadwell said the new logo represented the modernisation of cricket in the region."We had gone through a little process last year of going from Illawarra Cricket Association to Cricket Illawarra, so this fitted in really nicely with what we were doing, " he said. "Everyone was really happy with the concept."
