The students have been creating logos to enter into the competition and the light of the Wollongong lighthouse and even our night sky have featured prominently. Harriet Moore feature our city's night sky in her entry, which was digitally designed on her iPad.
"I kind of added a nebula in the background because at night you can see Wollongong's stars and I love that part of Wollongong," Harriet said.
"I love the sky it's gorgeous."
The students at Keira High School have been working on their entries for the competition, which encourages the community to try designing the logo for the 2022 UCI Road World Cycling Championships which will be held in Wollongong. Entries for the competition close at 5 pm on Friday, June 28.
Head of teaching and learning at Keira High Phillipa Havilah said the competition embraced the school's 'Excelsior' learning philosophy.
"We always look out for the opportunity in Excelsior, because it's about 21st century skills, to be working on tasks that are translating into a real world context," she said.
"This has been a fabulous opportunity for them to be creative but also to be mindful of their community."
In creating their logos students were encouraged to think about the landmarks which make Wollongong identifiable.

"When my teacher said we'd be drawing the logo I tried to think of the key features of Wollongong so I did the lighthouse, the harbour and the sun rising," student Adam Yagmur said.
The overall competition winner will win some major prizes including a special "money can't buy" VIP package from Cycling Australia over the course of the week-long event in 2022 and a host of local tourism experiences.
