A medium-sized Pantech food delivery truck rolled just past New Mount Pleasant Road on the M1 about 11.30am on Tuesday morning.
Traffic began backing up and queues stretched as far as three kilometres.
Soon after, light vehicles were allowed to pass through slowly but heavy vehicles were parked for some time.
Light vehicles were also diverted onto Bulli Pass and the Princes Highway.
Paramedics, police and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene.
The driver was able to extricate himself from the truck after the rollover and was treated at the scene by a nurse before paramedics arrived.
He was taken to Wollongong Hospital with minor head and arm injuries.
