Nail gun recalled over safety failure

The Ryobi nailer was designed with a mechanical interlock feature that would prevent a nail or staple from firing accidently.

However Product Safety Australia recalled the multi-tool over concerns the safety device could "get stuck and allow a nail or staple to discharge through use of the trigger alone and not via the usual two step actuation process".

"There is a risk of laceration injuries if the nailer/stapler discharges unintentionally," the product watchdog said.

The nail gun, Ryobi's model RA-NBS1832-S Airwave 2-in-1 Brad nailer and stapler, was sold across the country in Bunnings stores.

The product was on Bunning's shelves and available online between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2024.

Products affected by the safety device failure display a date code on the side of the nail magazine ranging from Week (W) 43 and Year (Y) 2021 to Week (W) 9 and Year (Y) 2024.

Consumers should stop using the product immediately, Product Safety Australia said.

Return the multi-tool to Bunnings for a full refund of the purchase price, the watchdog said.
